Our Favorites in Cannon Beach, Oregon

The city of Cannon Beach is exactly what a beach town should be. Full of art galleries, shops that sell unique items, coffee shops, breweries, wine tasting, and a fabulous beach… there is so much to see and do in this small town.

Here are our favorites in Cannon Beach :

Favorite Art Gallery we can’t afford anything in: Bronze Coast Gallery. Runner up is Archimedes.

The people at all the galleries I have visited in Cannon Beach have been passionate about the art there. I’ve had them explain to me what the materials used are, how they are fired in some cases, and they usually have a story to tell about the artist. Makes strolling the galleries much more interesting and ends up being educational.

Favorite Art gallery I can afford (if I save for it): DragonFire Gallery

Favorite Pizza Joint: Fultano’s. It is small hole in the wall with AMAZING pizza and beer on tap.

Favorite Coffee Shop: Insomnia Coffee Co

I was obviously too sleepy when getting the coffee and a scone to take a photo of it. Oops.

Favorite Breakfast: Surfbird Cafe’. Tasty, tasty breakfast with the best prices in town. And yes more coffee.

Favorite Place to Stay: We don’t have a favorite. It depends on how long we are here. If we are here for more than two nights a VRBO makes sense. We did LOVE the last place we stayed: The Waves, La Colina Room 307. Heard the ocean waves all night, beach view, and lovely room.

Favorite Brewery: Public Coast Brewery – This is our go to spot for dinner too. The Wings are great, could be a bit spicier for Sasquatch. Nothing like beer and wings following a walk on the beach. They also have live music on Saturday nights from 7-9 pm.

Favorite Time to Visit: Midweek when the crowds from Portland are at work or in the off season. We’ve been here in the winter and the beach during a storm is overwhelmingly beautiful.

Favorite Beach Hike besides the famous Haystack Rock: Hug Point at low tide.

5 miles south of Cannon Beach is a short walk to the beach and half mile (round trip) walk to a beautiful (seasonal) waterfall. At low tide you can explore the tide pools, caves carved from the cliffs, even discover the wheel ruts of stagecoaches in the stone. Just be careful and never turn your back on the ocean and end up like this guy……

Tried to warn him
No permanent damage done

Prepare for weather, even in summer. Pack layers and wear sunscreen. In August the average high is 67 degrees. Perhaps pack a few extra pairs of pants and shoes too. You are bound to get wet.

If you drive north or south of Cannon Beach you will find other wonderful towns and forest hike/beach hikes, all sorts of thing to do along the coastline. The Oregon Coast is a special place. Enjoy.
